MISSION STATEMENT:
The American Indian Movement of the Northeast Territory (AIM-NET), a part of National AIM, came into existence due to the needs of many traditional Native peoples in the Northeast for traditional and respectful assistance on many issues confronting the Native communities.
In the past there have been several attempts to start an AIM chapter in the Northeast - some claiming to be affiliated with National AIM, but actually lacking that sanction or authority; others who have no affiliation to any of the First Nations people and yet felt that they could tell traditional people of various Nations what they should or should not accept. The later including statements that "input was not needed by traditional Elders and representatives of the Nations in the Northeast". We will not operate in the same manner, but will seek and listen to traditional Elders.
Ignorance and disrespect of valid complaints and issues in the Northeast, such as misrepresentation of sacred and traditional cultural ways and the infiltration by the 'newage' fakes exploiting various Nations' cultural ways has lead to the formation of this AIM Northeast Territory group.
AIM Northeast Territory is comprised of people from National AIM chapters who have friends and family in the Northeast and those who are of Native Nations who live in the Northeast who came together as advisors to try and assist with issues facing Native peoples in the Northeast. Our goal is to continue to unify people from the various Nations of the Northeast and build a strong AIM Chapter in the Northeast - a Chapter shared by people who are willing to work with their neighboring Native communities, Nations, and respect the guidance and input of the Elders.
There are numerous issues facing our people in the Northeast. These include sovereignty issues, land claim issues, burial desecrations, as well as cultural and ceremonial exploitation and misrepresentation. We endeavor to conduct ourselves and address these issues in honor of our Ancestors and our Elders. We have asked for and received encouragement from our Elders and founders of AIM.
